I’ve reached a strange point in my life…

My parents are both well into their eighties.

They’re still going strong but inevitably getting frailer… and needing a bit more looking after than they’d admit to.

Meanwhile, my own children have become young adults.

One of them is finishing University and the other is applying to go there next year!

Which means that I’m somewhere in the middle.

So it feels like I’ve got a lot of responsibility, suddenly.

I find myself worrying about my mum and dad.

Are they secure?

Are their financial affairs sorted?

What will happen when they pass away?

But then I’m also thinking about my kids.

Will they need support with finding a flat, or living in an expensive city with a meagre salary?

So I’m right there in the middle of two generations!

Then I catch myself thinking about my own end of things.

I turn 59 next year and it won’t be long before my kids are having these same anxious thoughts about me.

It’s a little unsettling, if I’m honest.

But it turns out I am very far from alone.

Millions of us, all at the same time, are arriving at exactly this crossroads…

And, yes, this is just the way of things…

It’s been like this for decades.

Except… not quite.
